Interactive Graph Manipulation Tools Enhanced with Low-Frequency Tactile and Force Feedback

چکیده
Haptic feedback has been reported to significantly improve humancomputer interaction in the virtual 3D environments. There are also benefits in using low-frequency haptic feedback in simple interaction tasks in 2D environments. Our study aimed at finding out how tactile and force feedback could be used to improve interaction in a direct manipulation desktop application. According to the user study, the users found the additional tactile and force feedback effects helpful in the events that cannot be instantly visually verified, e.g., when objects were touched with the tool. Both the tactile and force feedback seemed to have potential although some redesigning for the effects must be done.

Aims. Devices that allow using the functionality of natural hand movements are of the greatest interest. The purpose of this study is to select areas of research at the intersection of several fields of science – biomechanics and cybernetics to develop scientific and technical approaches to track the movements of the operator's fingers and form feedback tactile and force communication received ...
متن کاملInteractive Sonification for exploring Single Molecule Properties with AFM based Force Spectroscopy
This paper presents an interactive audio-haptic human-computer interface for controlling an atomic force microscope (AFM) in force spectroscopy experiments on single molecules. The sensor data used are proportional to the force that is applied to a single molecule. These forces are measured in real-time by using the reflection of a laser beam from a cantilever. We present a system that involves...
متن کاملGrasping and Manipulation of Unknown Objects Based on Visual and Tactile Feedback
The sense of touch allows humans and higher animals to perform coordinated and efficient interactions within their environment. Recently, tactile sensor arrays providing high force, spatial, and temporal resolution became available for robotics, which allows us to consider new control strategies to exploit this important and valuable sensory channel for grasping and manipulation tasks. Successf...
متن کاملPreliminary results on grasping with vision and touch
This paper presents initial results in integrating touch with vision for delicate manipulation tasks. A generalizable framework of behavioral primitives for tactile and visual feedback control is proposed. Since vision provides position and shape information at a distance, while tactile provides small-scale geometric and force information, we focus on the complimentary roles of vision and touch...
متن کاملReliable non-prehensile door opening through the combination of vision, tactile and force feedback
Whereas vision and force feedback – either at the wrist or at the joint level – for robotic manipulation purposes has received considerable attention in the literature, the benefits that tactile sensors can provide when combined with vision and force have been rarely explored. In fact, there are some situations in which vision and force feedback cannot guarantee robust manipulation. Vision is f...
